By default FPDI can "only" handle PDF documents with a normal cross-reference which was the default way to store object offsets in a PDF document up to PDF version 1.4. Beginning with PDF version 1.5 there were new compression features introduced which involve internal structure changes how a PDF document can be created.

With this seperate parser, as a commercial add-on, you're up to date and FPDI will be able to handle PDF documents which uses this compression feature without a problem.

As of version 2.1 the add-on will also allow FPDI to import pages of encrypted or protected PDF documents.

It is also able to repair common faulty PDF structures at runtime.
